JD Vance’s Response to Taylor Swift Endorsing Kamala Harris Backfires

Ohio Republican Senator JD Vance dismissed Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris on Wednesday, saying most Americans would not be “influenced by a billionaire celebrity,” but the comment appeared to backfire.
Fox News host Martha MacCallum asked Vance about the endorsement of the Democratic vice president, which came moments after Tuesday night’s presidential debate, saying many women voters would care what Swift thinks.
“I don’t think most Americans, whether they like her music, are fans of her or not, are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from their interests and the problems of most Americans,” Vance responded.

The comments, made on Fox News, appeared to backfire on Donald Trump’s running mate, as social media users reacted by asking how Vance could say that when Trump was also a billionaire.
“Makes ya think” one user on X, formerly Twitter, posted, along with a photo of Trump in his all-gold apartment.
“Congratulations, you just described your running mate!” another said in a video, also showing photos of Trump in his plush apartment, adding that the Republican did not represent the “average American.”
“In summary, they’re big mad at a billionaire for being a billionaire because she won’t endorse their billionaire,” another X user said.
The singer posted her endorsement to Instagram on Tuesday night, signing off the post with “Childless Cat Lady,” in reference to a comment made by Vance in 2021.
“We are effectively run in this country via the Democrats” by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too,” he said.
The clip resurfaced after Trump announced Vance as his running mate and the senator later said he “regretted” the remarks.
The GOP vice presidential candidate’s response to Swift’s endorsement also made it onto The View Thursday, with host Whoopi Goldberg telling him to “shut up,” adding that he knew nothing about Swift’s finances or situation.
She later apologized, saying she did not like being told to shut up, but emphasized that Republicans were clearly rattled by Swift’s endorsement of Harris.
Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former President Bill Clinton and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Trump’s former rival, was on the ABC show and said Swift had pushed people to register to vote and decide for themselves.
“I want everybody to vote,” Clinton said. “That’s how we strengthen our democracy.”
Swift’s Instagram post did have a substantial impact, with more than 337,000 people clicking a link to register to vote from her page.
